Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
